Welcome to CAPER

CAPER (Cancer Prediction in Exeter) has been established and conducting research since 1997. The overriding focus is cancer diagnosis in primary care.

At the outset an innovative methodology was introduced throwing a new slant on the traditional case control approach. The scope of research was then extended to include the study of pathways to specialised secondary care units.

Results to date have been encouraging. Significant symptoms and combination of symptoms have been identified for the four main cancers studied. The positive predictive values generated provide a strong evidence base for clinical decisions and underlie diagnostic tools which have demonstrably saved lives.

CAPER are a team of four researchers who all have published work to their name. We also work closely with the University of Bristol.
